A New York native and Northern California transplant, this self-taught guitarist and soulful songstress evokes listeners on a deep, soul level. Her sound is a mix of rhythmic, funky finger picking and string slapping, guttural blues belts and quick lyrical flow with insidious phrasing.
Peruvian/Spanish/Irish/Puerto Rican hybrid- born Carmen Marie Gutierrez, later took on the name and medicine of the Crow. Some people call her Mama Crow. For Carmen, this refers to a musical spirit or archetype that she embodies in moments of live performance. As an individual and artist, she is known to many as Carmen Crow.
With a genre ranging in a fusion of acoustic R&B, Neo-soul, Experimental Folk-Hop and Spoken word with Hip Hop influence, this artist provides a high-energy, danceable live show as well as pulls on your heart strings with vulnerable, sonic soliloquies. Vocally, she is like a love-child of Fiest/Lauryn Hill/Nai Palm of Hiatus Kaiyote. It's not uncommon for her to begin freestyle-channeling with the people at her live shows, backed by the powerful beatbox of Masta Lock and shredding lead guitar of Joshua Wellington.
This live TRIO brings the best blend of rhythm and soul, laced with positive messages that touch on the true human experience. Through presence and authenticity, this band 'keeps it so real' with genuine inspiration and visceral uplift.
